Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive

Blackstone...

The Blackstone Mosfet Overdrive is a Pedal developed by a company named Blackstone Appliances.

It is total different than other overdrives, and is not based on any circuit i know. It has a fuzzy sound on some settings, and it sounds smooth and creamy and provides great sustain

My Build

Ive used a Madbean mysterioso pcb to build this. you can find this one in the discontinued pcb section in
the madbean forum:
http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=2038.0

It fits in a 1590B altough its a tight fit. I arranged everything horizontal and placed the LED on the other side of the switch.

  1. FYI, Craig Anderton first used a 4049 for distortion back in the 80's(might have even been before that). It was published in Guitar Player mag. EH also had a hot tubes pedal using the same technique. I adapted this idea for a dist pedal in the late 80's. Just saying the idea of using 4049 chips for dist has been around for a long time before I ever heard of Blackstone's rehash. Gary

  2. The red llama is also based around the same chip, same as Craig Anderton TSF. These both got all of the drive from the CMOS chip. I believe that later revisions of the TSF used a separate chip to drive the CMOS. Mark Hammer did a lot of development using the 4049 and his work is well known in the DIY community. Both the Red Llama and the Hot Tubes are among my favourite pedals. I'd like to try the Blackstone as it seems like a interesting evolution of using the cmos chip. Other pedals worth checking out are the runoff grove double D and the Emma Rezzafratitz.
